The State Government’s new container recycling deposit scheme officially began on Thursday so South Burnett residents can now redeem eligible containers for 10c in Kingaroy, Cherbourg and Kilkivan.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Kingaroy Container Recycling Scheme (CRS) drop-off point will be operated by Return-It in the Lifeline Shop at 189 Kingaroy Street.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The depot will be open from 8:30am to 4:30pm on weekdays, 8:30am to 12:30pm on Saturdays and 8:30am to 4:30pm on Sundays.<\/p>\n

In order to use this drop-off point, customers will first need to register for a Containers for Change “scheme account” to be given a Scheme ID, which is able to be completed online.<\/p>\n

Inside the Lifeline store, they’ll enter their Scheme ID and the number of containers they’re redeeming into a terminal, which will print out a receipt.<\/p>\n

This receipt then needs to be pasted on to a translucent plastic bag – such as a kitchen tidy liner – that containers must be enclosed in.<\/p>\n

Refunds will be deposited into their bank account a few days later after the bag has been checked<\/p>\n

The Cherbourg CRS drop off point is located near the Cherbourg Recycling Centre on Stan Mickelo Drive, immediately before the town area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This all-weather depot will operate from 7:00am to 3:30pm Mondays to Thursdays, as well every second Friday.<\/p>\n

To use it, people should also register for a Containers For Change scheme ID<\/b><\/a> beforehand so that refunds can be deposited directly to their bank account.<\/p>\n

Kilkivan residents will be able to drop off their containers at the post office in Bligh Street from 9:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Kilkivan depot will provide over-the-counter cash refunds, and there’s no need to create an account beforehand.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The State Government says the CRS has been introduced to reduce litter, improve recycling rates and provide opportunities for charities, community groups and other not-for-profit organisations to raise extra funds by setting up their own container collection points and redeeming the containers themselves.<\/p>\n

Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard beverage containers between 150ml and three litres will be eligible for a refund except for milk containers and wine bottles.<\/p>\n

Various charities are also expected to volunteer as drop-off points as part of their fundraising activities.<\/p>\n
