{"id":221253,"date":"2018-10-30T16:19:54","date_gmt":"2018-10-30T06:19:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=221253"},"modified":"2020-09-23T13:25:06","modified_gmt":"2020-09-23T03:25:06","slug":"rolling-stoppages-at-tarong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2018\/10\/30\/rolling-stoppages-at-tarong\/","title":{"rendered":"Rolling Stoppages At Tarong"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_221256\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-221256\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/philgoldby1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-221256\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/philgoldby1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/philgoldby1.jpg 200w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/philgoldby1-189x300.jpg 189w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-221256\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">AMWU organiser Phil Goldby (Photo: AMWU)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>October 30, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Contractors involved in the current shut-down work being carried at Tarong Power Station are conducting a series of rolling stopworks as part of prolonged negotiations over a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>About 80 workers contracted by\u00a0MHPS-ANZ Plant Services are involved in the industrial action which began on Tuesday during the day shift with two two-hour stoppages followed by a one-hour stoppage.<\/p>\n<p>Similar stoppages were scheduled to occur on Tuesday evening during the night shift and then continue again on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Australian Manufacturing Workers&#8217; Union and the Australian Workers Union are taking part in the protected industrial action.<\/p>\n<p><strong>southburnett.com.au<\/strong> understands workers from the CFMEU Construction division have also applied for protected status to join the dispute.<\/p>\n<p>AMWU organiser Phil Goldby, who met with the contractors on Tuesday, said the EBA negotiations had begun last Christmas but since then a restructuring of the workforce had taken place and negotiations had broken down.<\/p>\n<p>(Downer acquired the remaining 73 per cent of shares in MHPS-ANZ earlier this month.\u00a0 MHPS-ANZ &#8211; formerly part of Clyde Babcock Hitachi (CBH) &#8211; was formed in 2014 between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi.)<\/p>\n<p>Mr Goldby said the agreement put forward by Downer sought to increase working hours from 36 hours to 38 hours a week, which was equivalent to a pay cut of 5 per cent in real terms when lost overtime was taken into consideration.<\/p>\n<p>He said non-tradespeople would be 7.5 per cent worse off under the proposed agreement, while semi-skilled would be 2.5 per cent out of pocket.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the union had a sought a 2.5 per cent increase per year, which was &#8220;just to keep up with the cost of living&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The EBA negotiations also involve MHPS-ANZ contractors at other sites across Queensland, including Callide Power Station, Queensland Alumina at Gladstone and Queensland Nitrates at Moura.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Goldby said the workers would be voting electronically on Thursday \/ Friday whether or not to accept the Downer agreement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the agreement goes down, we&#8217;ll make sure we&#8217;re back around the negotiating table as soon as possible,&#8221; Mr Goldby said.<\/p>\n<p>Comment has been sought from Downer at North Ryde in NSW.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Stanwell spokesperson said the corporation did not expect to suffer any delays in the current shutdown work due to the stoppages.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE October 31:<\/strong> <strong>southburnett.com.au<\/strong> received the following response from Downer: &#8220;Downer does not have a comment at this stage&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contractors involved in the current shut-down work being carried at Tarong Power Station are conducting a series of rolling stopworks as part of prolonged negotiations over a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":278004,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[5,3],"tags":[34,105],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
