Cherbourg’s new authorised container refund point is ready to spring into action when Queensland’s container exchange scheme launches on November 1.<\/p>\n

Natural Resources Minister Dr Anthony Lynham took the opportunity to visit the depot during his visit to Cherbourg on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Containers For Change area has been created in front of Cherbourg’s\u00a0materials recovery facility in Stan Mickelo Drive<\/p>\n

Dr Lynham also enjoyed a guided tour of the adjacent materials recovery facility from manager Andrew Beckett and Cherbourg Council\u00a0economic development officer Sean Nicholson.<\/p>\n

The Minister said Cherbourg was leading the way in the region for recycling. He promised\u00a0to sit down with South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell to explore options about the South Burnett Regional Council sending recyclable materials to Cherbourg, an option already be used by Gympie Regional Council.<\/p>\n

Mr Nicholson said all recyclable waste would be accepted at the depot for sorting, but refunds would only be given on those items which were a part of the State Government’s\u00a0container exchange scheme (see Refund Scheme list below).<\/p>\n

Refunds would be transferred by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as there would be no cash transactions carried out at the depot.<\/p>\n

To receive a refund, an account must be opened online first at the Containers For Change website<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0container refund point will be open Monday-Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm (except every second Friday).<\/p>\n
