A small group of local residents attended a community forum in Kingaroy on Friday to learn more about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).<\/p>\n

Maranoa MP David Littleproud, who officially opened the forum at the Kingaroy Town Hall Supper Room, said the NDIS rollout had begun in the South Burnett three months ago.<\/p>\n

“I wanted to hold this forum so our community could learn more about the NDIS and bring up any concerns so we can address them,\u201d Mr Littleproud said.<\/p>\n

The NDIS is administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and agency staff were on hand on Friday to answer questions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NDIS is the largest social reform since Medicare,\u201d Mr Littleproud said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a once-in-a-generation landmark reform and the NDIS is making a real difference, especially in rural communities like ours.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe one of the biggest tragedies for our rural communities is when a loved one is forced to move away \u2013 move to a larger town or city, away from family and everything they\u2019ve ever known \u2013 to receive care.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NDIS rollout is making a difference to this.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with the numerous disability support groups in my electorate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have sat in their offices, with their staff and clients; listened to their heart-wrenching stories and also stories of wonderful support provided.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese professionals and those living with disability and their families need the support of the NDIS.\u201d<\/p>\n
