Saturday’s rain forced the Queensland Dairy and Heritage Museum team to shift their annual Australia Day event from the museum grounds to the Murgon PCYC … but it didn’t stop the celebrations.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker was Queensland Rural Ambassador Ian McConnel, from ‘Mt Brisbane’ near Esk. Ian spoke about his family history, the 1830s in Queensland and how proud he felt to be an Australian.<\/p>\n

Volunteers cooked up damper – served with the obligatory golden syrup – and enjoyed live music from the Stolzenberg Brothers and bush poetry read by Earl Pratt and Cynthia Hatchett.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the PCYC hall was a bit too small for the planned thong throwing competition, so we’ll never know who the 2013 champion would have been.<\/p>\n

However the winners of the annual Murgon Business and Development Association’s local Australia Day awards were announced:<\/p>\n
