Drought had looked to be the main risk for Yarraman’s annual town festival, “The Colours Of Yarraman”, but on Saturday it was rain that had organisers worried.<\/p>\n

The Colours Of Yarraman has grown out of a gardening competition and now features a week of local events.<\/p>\n

Recent dry weather had gardeners worried their yards may not be up to scratch but as the festival approached, the storm clouds gathered.<\/p>\n

The first scheduled event was a movie night on Friday organised by Yarraman Kindy.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, car and bike owners braved the weather to take part in a show and shine at the Yarraman Recreation Ground (Errol Munt Park).<\/p>\n

This was followed by “Jazz On The Platform” at Station Park, the head of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.<\/p>\n

Showers during the morning kept numbers down but local residents still turned up dressed to the nines to enjoy a glass of wine and live music.<\/p>\n

The Greg Bird Jazz Band entertained on the platform, while diners grazed a beautifully decorated long table.<\/p>\n

Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio officially opened the event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It’s good to see how Colours of Yarraman has grown over the years and now offers a week of activities for Yarraman and district,” Mayor Antonio said.<\/p>\n

He said it was all about community pride.<\/p>\n

“In Yarraman, you have a special community, ” he said. “What you are building here will mean a tremendous amount to Yarraman as the years go by.”<\/p>\n

The Colours Of Yarraman week continues with a Triples “Anyone Can Bowl” Day at Yarraman Bowls Club on Wednesday from noon to 4:00pm; Yarraman Markets on Saturday (7:00am to noon) and self-drive tours next Sunday (October 14 – maps available at Heritage House).<\/p>\n

The winners of the gardening competition will be announced at a special awards evening at Yarraman Memorial Hall next Saturday (October 13) from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.<\/p>\n
