Kingaroy’s favourite son, Matthew Hayden, says he “dodged a bullet” after suffering neck injuries while surfing at Stradbroke Island on Friday.<\/p>\n

The former Test cricketer posted selfies on Instagram at the weekend showing him battered and bruised.<\/p>\n

“Fractured C6, torn C5, C4 ligaments safe to say I truly have dodged a bullet. Thank you everyone \u2764\ufe0f,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

Hayden, 46, was surfing with his son Josh when he crashed head-first into a sand bank.<\/p>\n

MRI and CT scans confirmed the spinal injuries.<\/p>\n

Hayden wrote that he was “on the road to recovery”.<\/p>\n

“Last attention seeking post I promise. Just wanted to say a big thank you to all our mates on Straddie who have been so supportive. Especially Ben & Sue Kelley for the fast diagnosis,” he wrote.<\/p>\n
