The South Burnett Regional Council announced on Thursday it has signed a $6.7 million infrastructure agreement over Niagara Road.<\/p>\n

The road provides access to the northern end of the Coopers Gap Wind Farm and the Powerlink electricity substation being built there.<\/p>\n

Under the terms of the agreement signed with principal contractor GE Catcon, a 13km section of Niagara Road between the Bunya Highway and Jarail Road, which currently has a single lane bitumen seal, will be converted to a six metre wide, unsealed road for the wind farm’s construction phase.<\/p>\n

Once construction is completed, the road will be given a four metre wide bitumen seal.<\/p>\n

All road work will be carried out by Council staff.<\/p>\n

“Council continues to work in a co-operative partnership with AGL Energy, Catcon and its partners,” Mayor Keith Campbell said.<\/p>\n

“The upgrade of Niagara Road represents another major benefit to the South Burnett community as part of the Coopers Gap Wind Farm project.”<\/p>\n

Construction work on Niagara Road will start next Monday, with some preliminary work undertaken this week.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During construction, through traffic will be controlled by signage or traffic control and minor delays can be expected.<\/p>\n

There may also be some restrictions on property access for short periods, but affected residents will be notified of this in advance by the onsite supervisor.<\/p>\n
