Two fires which threatened homes and destroyed paddocks in the Nanango area on Thursday may have been deliberately lit.<\/p>\n

Rural Fire Service Queensland Area Director Martin Taylor said there had not been time to fully investigate the circumstances of the fires which started within hours of each at Locke Lane (Glan Devon) and Smith Road (Booie).<\/p>\n

However, both were being treated as suspicious and further investigations were being undertaken.<\/p>\n

“I would urge the community to remain vigilant and report any unusual or suspicious behaviour to PoliceLink on 13-14-44 or Triple 0,” Inspector Taylor said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“They should especially take notice of any unfamiliar people or vehicles in the area.”<\/p>\n

Thursday’s fires in the Nanango area destroyed fences and ruined paddocks, incinerating much-needed feed for cattle.<\/p>\n

Local residents took to social media to thank firefighters for their efforts in saving their homes.<\/p>\n

Local firefighters believe two fires on Monday near the\u00a0Nanango-Tarong Road at South Nanango were also deliberately lit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rural fire crews extinguished the first fire and then were later called back.<\/p>\n

Fire crews were also called to a string of suspicious fires in the Murgon and Cherbourg areas at the weekend.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg fire captain Cameron Bond appealed to parents and guardians to keep an eye on their children during the school holidays.<\/p>\n

“Know what they are doing and who they are with,” he said.<\/p>\n
