Proston’s inaugural Healthy Living Forum was a big success on Saturday … and there was also a big surprise for one of the organisers.<\/p>\n

At the end of the day,\u00a0Proston Lions Club president Les Blanch presented\u00a0Community Health Nurse Kathy Crane with the\u00a0Professor Ian Frazer Humanitarian Award to recognise everything she does for Proston.<\/p>\n

The award\u00a0is named after Queensland immunologist Prof Frazer in recognition of his research into\u00a0cervical cancer\u00a0and his assistance to the Lions Medical\u00a0Research Foundation\u00a0over many years.<\/p>\n

The award is given to someone who has provided outstanding services to the community or support for medical research.<\/p>\n

The Healthy Living Forum was a joint project of Proston Lions, Proston QCWA and the Proston community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Proston Lions secretary Jan Barsby said it had been well-received by the 150 or so visitors, and well-supported by local residents.<\/p>\n

There were a number of stalls as well as a string of guest speakers from Kingaroy, including optometrist\u00a0Malcolm Lee See, podiatrist\u00a0Rachel Stone and Allison Merton, from\u00a0Diabetes Care New Beginnings, who all talked about various aspects of health care.<\/p>\n

The QCWA’s Country Kitchens team provided several healthy cooking demonstrations.<\/p>\n

There were also demonstrations by the Proston Line Dancers, Free2Dance Hip Hop Crew from Wondai, and the local tai chi club.<\/p>\n
