September 12, 108<\/strong><\/p>\n

Queensland Police have begun an investigation into the contamination of strawberries in Queensland.<\/p>\n

Sewing needles have been found inserted into two brands of strawberries: \u201cBerry Obsession\u201d and \u201cBerry Licious\u201d, sold through Woolworths stores and other outlets.<\/p>\n

A police spokesman said the strawberries had been sold in stores in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.<\/p>\n

Police are liaising with retailers to ensure all stock is removed from sale.<\/p>\n

And they are urging anyone who finds strawberries containing the needles to contact Policelink for further advice on 13-14-44.<\/p>\n

Queensland\u2019s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said anyone else who had bought the brands of strawberries without signs of tampering should return them to the store or throw them away.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile it is expected that berries picked early last week would now not be useable, many people freeze the fruit for later use,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are in doubt, just throw them out.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny strawberries bought from September 13 are safe.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny strawberries that you are certain are not the brands Berry Licious and Berry Obsession, are safe.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you believe you have eaten a needle, we would recommend you speak to your doctor or call 13 HEALTH.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love strawberries, there is no reason to stop eating strawberries, we just need to be aware of this incident.\u201d<\/p>\n
