The Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking and Management Association announced today they’ll be postponing this year’s Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition, which was due to be held on February 9 and 10.<\/p>\n

Spokesperson John Burow said continuing flood conditions at the dam and substantial damage to roads and infrastructure prompted the decision.<\/p>\n

“The safety and comfort of all participants is of great concern to us,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Another factor is that many of our competitors come from areas that are also suffering record flooding. The postponement may enable these anglers to enjoy a weekend of fun and fishing when conditions improve later in the year.”<\/p>\n

The Fish Stocking Association will set a new date for the competition after the current situation stabilises.<\/p>\n

This is the second time in two years that the Yellowbelly has had to be rescheduled due to flooding. In 2011, the competition was moved from February to June for similar reasons.<\/p>\n

This morning the South Burnett Regional Council’s Dsaster Management Committee heard that damage to the Dam’s infrastructure and facilities was “substantial”.<\/p>\n

More than 80 Boondooma dam visitors were accommodated overnight at the Proston Community Hall and a further 60 campers remaining at the dam are being cared for at the lookout area.<\/p>\n
