Murgon Golf Club and Wondai Sportsgrounds have won an short reprieve from cost increases after the South Burnett Regional Council voted to reject tenders for new recycled water plants at this month’s Council meeting. <\/p>\n

The Council had called tenders for Class A recycled water plants because the golf club and sportsgrounds currently use lower-grade water which could pose potential health risks to club members if it were inappropriately handled.<\/p>\n

This water is supplied at negligible cost through arrangements both groups struck with the former Wondai and Murgon Shire Councils many years ago.<\/p>\n

The Council advised both groups their water needed to upgraded to meet modern safety standards.<\/p>\n

They also advised that when Class A recycled water became available, they were likely to face cost increases.<\/p>\n

However at their August meeting, Councillors found tender responses varied widely and decided to see whether the project could be undertaken in-house instead.<\/p>\n

Council’s Infrastructure General Manager Aaron Meehan will now investigate options to supply recycled water using existing infrastructure, and will report his findings to Council at a future meeting. <\/p>\n

“Recycled water is safe to use when the relevant health and technical guidelines have been followed,” Waste Water portfolio chair Cr Roz Frohloff said. <\/strong><\/p>\n

“Our objectives are to deliver recycled water to community groups that best protect public health while minimising design and construction outlays.<\/p>\n

“Council is now investigating if it is possible to use our existing plants to deliver quality recycled water.”<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Council will partner with Murgon Golf Club and Wondai Sportsgrounds to ensure their water is discharged in accordance with public health requirements.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Golf Club and most of Kingaroy’s sports fields have been using Class A recycled water produced by Kingaroy’s new waste water treatment plant since 2016.<\/p>\n
