Former Wondai Mayor Percy Iszlaub says today’s flooding is the worst he’s seen since he was a young boy … and greater than the 2011 floods.<\/p>\n

Percy told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> it’s definitely one of the biggest floods he’s seen on Dingo Creek at Wondai.<\/p>\n

And he’s surprised by the speed at which Krebs Bridge, near Murgon, has gone under.<\/p>\n

“After a lot of rain we usually wait a day or two for the water to come down Barambah Creek to flood Krebs Bridge,” he said.<\/p>\n

“This time it’s flooded and it’s all local water. And there’s still water to come down the creek from further away.<\/p>\n

“It’s the most rain I’ve seen in my lifetime and I’m almost 87.”<\/p>\n

Percy said he had measured “more than 10 inches” of rain in old terms (ie 250mm) in Wondai and it was still falling.<\/p>\n

southburnett.com.au<\/strong> has received reports of some northern parts of the South Burnett region receiving more than 300mm in less than 24 hours.<\/p>\n

“The only thing that has saved us is that it has been so dry. Some of the water must be soaking into the ground. In 2011, the soil was already saturated when the floods occurred,” Percy said.<\/p>\n
