Ergon Energy is warning people to keep well away from fallen powerlines or leaning power poles as wild storms lash the region.<\/p>\n

The company has mobilised repair crews to parts of the North Burnett, Bundaberg and Bargara, focussing on ensuring safety around fallen lines and isolating damaged feeders.<\/p>\n

About 10,000 customers are without power.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has been significant damage to some sections of the network and people must keep themselves and others away where our network is damaged or lines are down,\u201d General Manager Service Delivery Southern Paul Jordon said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease do not hinder our crews as they work through the damage and do not drive over fallen power lines.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are aware of most of the damage in populated areas, but if you have a service line to your property down or you can see damage to our network in isolated areas warn others and let Ergon know on 13-22-96.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are still assessing impacts at this time, but initial indications are that some customers could expect to be without power for 48 hours or longer as we work through repairs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ergon crews are isolating supply from damaged buildings that could expose an electrical danger.<\/p>\n

\u201cSafety is our first and constant focus as we assess the impact,\u201d Mr Jordan said.<\/p>\n

Ergon has reminded residents that when buildings are damaged, power will not be restored to premises until cleared by a licenced electrical contractor.<\/p>\n
