The first accredited quad bike training course offered in the South Burnett will be run next month, thanks to a partnership between AgForce and Kingaroy TAFE.<\/p>\n

The course will be run at Passchendaele Farm, a working cattle property at 4149 Ironpot Road near Burrandowan.<\/p>\n

It will provide participants with the skills to maintain and safely operate a quad bike in a rural environment.<\/p>\n

The course was announced at the Kingaroy Chamber Of Commerce and Industry’s meeting on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

AgForce South East Regional President Carolyn Stone said it aimed to address safety issues surrounding quad bikes.<\/p>\n

“According to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, 70 people have been killed using quad bikes in Queensland over the past 15 years,” Mrs Stone said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“There are also about 200 quad bike-related ambulance attendances, 300 hospitalisations and 600 emergency department presentations every year.<\/p>\n

“Quad bikes are an essential tool for many farmers, but they’re also very dangerous.<\/p>\n

“The aim of the course is to show people how to ride a quad bike safely, and at the end of it riders will get a certificate that could help with insurance issues.”<\/p>\n

The course will start at 7:00am on March 20 and will run until abut 3:00pm.<\/p>\n

Participants must be aged 16 or older.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They’ll also need to bring along their own quad bike, a helmet, lunch, and wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts and enclosed shoes.<\/p>\n

The cost of the course is $220 and participant numbers are limited to 10.<\/p>\n
