The Queensland Biosecurity Manual was updated this month<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Biosecurity Queensland has released an updated version of the\u00a0Queensland Biosecurity Manual which eases some restrictions about moving cattle from a ticky zone to an abattoir in a tick-free area.<\/p>\n

Queensland Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Allison Crook said the updates meant producers could minimise or possibly remove the need to chemically treat livestock immediately before movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis gives producers greater flexibility for carrying out low-risk activities when moving cattle into the cattle tick-free zone,\u201d Dr Crook said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has the benefit of reducing reliance on chemical treatments, meaning increased opportunities for organic beef production systems. <\/p>\n

“Another benefit is improved animal welfare outcomes through the need for less handling of livestock.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe update strikes a balance between maintaining the integrity of the cattle tick-free zone, and allowing reduced restrictions for the movement of stock that pose a low risk of spreading cattle ticks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two new guides and a procedure about the new option are available on the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries website<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

All other requirements under the Biosecurity Act 2014, Biosecurity Regulation 2016 and Queensland Biosecurity Manual remain in place.<\/p>\n
