There were some unfamiliar faces behind the counter at the Nanango Lions’ food van at the monthly Nanango markets on Saturday.<\/p>\n

A small group of Nanango Scouts volunteered to help out as part of their community activities.<\/p>\n

The scouts worked at the van from 8:00am to 11:00am,\u00a0gaining useful experience which will help them earn their citizenship badge.<\/p>\n

The troop meets weekly on Tuesdays from 5:00pm to 7:00pm\u00a0during school terms at the Nanango Scouts Den on the corner of Elk and Henry streets.<\/p>\n

Troop leader Ceinwen McKindley said as well as scouts, there were also joeys (aged 5-7) and cubs (aged 8-10).<\/p>\n

At the moment the group was concentrating on campcraft skills, ie. building things out of wooden poles, navigation and first aid.<\/p>\n

One or two camps are organised every school term.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Scouts have a big garage sale planned at their den on August 4, which will be an important fundraiser for the troop.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The sale will run from 6:00am to noon and will feature all sorts of household items, antiques, bric-a-brac etc.<\/p>\n

Ceinwen said donations of items would be welcomed from the public.<\/p>\n

Stalls could also be booked for $10.<\/p>\n
