South Burnett football fans who’ve been starved of top-tier action will be able to see some great games at Tom Alford Oval in Kingaroy this month.<\/p>\n

After playing away for most of this season, South Burnett United will be playing the coming three rounds of the Toowoomba Football League (TFL) competition at home, kicking off with a clash against Willowburn White at 5:00pm on Saturday, July 7.<\/p>\n

The two teams are currently sitting at the top of the TFL ladder and are the best in the league.<\/p>\n

Willowburn White, who’ve played 12 matches, sit on top of the ladder with 26 points.<\/p>\n

But United, who’ve played just 10 games, are breathing down their necks in second place with 23 points under their belt.<\/p>\n

The two sides have only met twice before this season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On March 25, in Round 4, United played Willowburn White in Toowoomba and secured a 2-all draw.<\/p>\n

United followed this three months later with a 2-1 victory over the Whites in their President’s Cup clash at Clive Berghofer Stadium, taking home their first piece of silverware from the Darling Downs competition.<\/p>\n

United have had a fortnight off – their last match was on June 17, when they thrashed the Warwick Redbacks 10-1 – and coach Lauren Mangan expects they’ll take a little while to snap back into top form on Saturday.<\/p>\n

But with a home crowd backing them, the local side will be keen to pare back the Whites lead.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s match will be the 16th round of the TFL.<\/p>\n

As usual, a canteen and barbecue will be operating at the grounds and spectators can view all the action at no charge.<\/p>\n

Local Competition<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The local competition will be taking a break for the next two weeks because of the school holidays.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So far, with 12 rounds played (though some teams still have deferred matches), Wests and Gunners are leading the Men’s competition by a wide margin, with Panthers and Barambah topping the Women’s competition.<\/p>\n

As at Round 11, the ladder looked like this:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last week’s results (Round 12) didn’t substantially alter anything.<\/p>\n

    • Men’s Division: Barambah 1 – Wests 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The local competition will resume on Saturday, July 21 with Round 13:<\/p>\n
