Queensland’s Firebirds netball team will be playing in a new uniform when they take to the courts for the upcoming Indigenous round as part of NAIDOC Week.<\/p>\n

Goreng Goreng artist Rachael Sarra is behind the new design, which was unveiled on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch praised Rachael’s creation.<\/p>\n

“The playing dress design is incredible and features the themes of unity, energy, strength and support,” Ms Enoch said.<\/p>\n

“This weekend is the Super Netball\u2019s inaugural Indigenous Round, which is a great way to lead into NAIDOC Week and also acknowledge the contribution that First Nations women have made to Australian society.”<\/p>\n

Rachael said a vital process of her design, titled “Uniting Flames”, was developing a story the artwork could represent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Fire was a huge theme in this artwork,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Traditionally fire was used to create peace and harmony on the land and a backburn would be used to create new growth.<\/p>\n

The Queensland Firebirds will take on the Melbourne Vixens on Saturday afternoon at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.<\/p>\n
