Coolabunia dairy farmer – and former South Burnett councillor – Damien Tessman is the only Queenslander taking part in Dairy Australia’s “Developing Dairy Leaders” program.<\/p>\n

Dairy Australia is the peak national body for the dairy industry, and the course is considered the first step towards holding senior positions within the industry.<\/p>\n

Damien will be heading down to Melbourne this week for the first residential component, from June 25-29.<\/p>\n

The second residential section will be held in Canberra from August 21-24.<\/p>\n

“The aim is to identify the next generation of State and national leaders of the industry,” Damien said.<\/p>\n

“It is something I have always been interested in.<\/p>\n

“I learned skills in Council that I think I can transfer.”<\/p>\n

Damien would be following in the footsteps of his uncle, Queensland Dairy Organisation president Brian Tessmann.<\/p>\n

The Tessmann family has been milking at Coolabunia for 118 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Dairy is something the family is very passionate about,” Damien said.<\/p>\n

“My nephew will be the sixth generation.”<\/p>\n

Damien’s application to do the Developing Dairy Leaders program was shortlisted and he was then interviewed.<\/p>\n

Flights, meals, accommodation and course fees are covered by the organisers.<\/p>\n

The program includes workshops, presentations, networking events, keynote speakers and a research investigation.<\/p>\n

Participants will meet leaders from within and outside the dairy industry, in government and the private sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
