Opposition Leader and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has called for more police to be allocated to Murgon, Cherbourg and Goomeri to tackle crime in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press conference held in Kingaroy on Wednesday, Mrs Frecklington said more than 800 people had signed the ‘Save The South Burnett’ petition.<\/p>\n

“This is a serious issue in the South Burnett,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

She said the petition clearly showed Police Minister Mark Ryan the area had an issue.<\/p>\n

“We need a hand,” she said.<\/p>\n

“The locals are calling out for it; I’m calling out for more resources.<\/p>\n

“We’ve just had the Budget handed down where we’ve seen a billion dollars every year going towards extra public servants.<\/p>\n

“So I am calling on the Premier and the Police Minister to show some love to the people of the South Burnett and give us the resources that we need to keep our people safe in their homes.<\/p>\n

“We need more police officers on the roster in and around the areas of Goomeri, Murgon and Cherbourg.”<\/p>\n

Footnote: The official petition to State Parliament<\/a> closed on Thursday with 828 signatures. The change.org petition<\/a>, which is still open, had 923 signatures on Thursday evening.<\/strong><\/p>\n
