South Burnett Regional Council is again supporting the RSPCA’s annual “Operation Wanted” discount pet desexing campaign.<\/p>\n

The three-month campaign kicked off on June 1.<\/p>\n

This is the fifth year the SBRC has been involved in Operation Wanted.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett was one of the original nine regions to support the campaign, which has grown this year to cover 17 council areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the vets and the shire councils who help drive the campaign and make it a success,\u201d RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty said.<\/p>\n

Participating vets drop their dog and cat desexing fees by 20 per cent during the campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last year, it was estimated about 20,000 animals were desexed in Queensland during Operation Wanted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year we\u2019re hoping to top that number,\u201d Mr Beatty said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a massive pet over-population all over Queensland and, of course, Australia.<\/p>\n

“More than 45,000 animals come into our care every year and the vast majority of the domestic animals have not been desexed.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ve got to get the message out there.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlus, of course, the reason we have such a massive feral cat and wild dog population is because people were not, and are not, desexing their pets. <\/p>\n

“These animals have a dramatic impact on the environment.”<\/p>\n

The RSPCA is urging people to register now<\/a>\u00a0to take advantage of the discount.<\/strong><\/p>\n
