Murgon shook off the disappointment of its previous week’s performance in the South Burnett rugby league senior competition to come roaring back into contention for 2018 on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs took on Cherbourg at Murgon Sportsground in one of the most exciting games of league played this season.<\/p>\n

The lead swapped several times, and both sides showed attacking flair.<\/p>\n

At 20-all, Christopher Bond took a conversion attempt for the Mustangs which hit the posts and was waved away.<\/p>\n

At half-time the sides were still locked at 20-all, a great indication of how close the teams were matched.<\/p>\n

Murgon scored first in the second stanza, but with 15 minutes to go, were only ahead of Cherbourg by two points, 28-26.<\/p>\n

Murgon then put on two unanswered tries and kept the Hornets outs, despite desperate Cherbourg attempts to attack the line.<\/p>\n

The final score was Murgon 38, Cherbourg 26 proving that Murgon’s trouncing by the Stags the previous week was definitely not a true indication of what they are capable of.<\/p>\n

Murgon tries were scored by Lehman Brunjes (2), Arthur Saltner,\u00a0 Elwyn Fewquandie, Lloyd Saltner, Cain Richardson, Coby Sullivan and Maurice Fisher.\u00a0Christopher Bond kicked three goals<\/p>\n

Cherbourg tries were scored by Thomas Simpson (2), Errol Simpson, Ralph Gyemore and Nathan Gadd.\u00a0Lewis Hopkins kicked three goals.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy and Nanango are currently locked at 10 points all on the top of the ladder, followed by Murgon and Cherbourg on 6 points.<\/p>\n

The second A Grade game played at Murgon on Saturday afternoon was between the Wondai Wolves and the Kingaroy Red Ants.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Ants ran away winners 86-4 but a loud cheer went up from spectators when Colin Cootes crossed the tryline for the Wolves midway through the first half.<\/p>\n

These were the first points the Wolves have scored since late April – a sign of the tough season they’ve been having – and were much appreciated by everyone watching.<\/p>\n

In the Toowoomba Rugby League U18s competition, South Burnett Eagles notched up a strong win against Wattles 82-4 on the road at Clifton on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Eagles have this weekend off.<\/p>\n
