More than $3000 was raised for the South Burnett Community Hospital Foundation at the inaugural Stradbroke Race Day social event held at the Bunya Mountains on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

“Punters” selected horses from a bookies’ board for the inaugural running of the Bunya Cup, and then enjoyed a live “phantom” race call by former South Burnett sportscaster Barry Green.<\/p>\n

The day was hosted by The Bunyas, the coffee shop, tavern and restaurant owned by Eleanor and Wayne Kratzmann at Dandabah.<\/p>\n

Wayne, who is chairman of the not-for-profit foundation which raises funds for the Lady Bjelke-Petersen Hospital in Kingaroy, said it had been a really good day and “something to build on” for next year.<\/p>\n

“It will become an annual event; everyone loved it,” he said.<\/p>\n

Rob Fitz-Herbert provided the live music and tapas and finger food were served during the afternoon.<\/p>\n

For the record, the winners of the Bunya Cup were all at long odds: 7-1 Charm Spirit, followed closely by 10-1 Black Leopard and 14-1 Redwood.<\/p>\n

And racing enthusiasts should note, the names of the nags on the bookie’s stand were all real thoroughbreds, some of the Kratzie Racing licensed syndicate’s 15 horses currently in training in Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
