During the French Revolution, women reportedly sat in the street knitting as the heads rolled … these days, women can be still be spotted knitting in the street but fortunately there’s no guillotine in Nanango!<\/p>\n

Every Wednesday for the past six weeks a group of women has been meeting at the “Busk Stop” outside Nanango Real Estate in Drayton Street from 1:00pm to 3:00pm to knit, chat and generally socialise.<\/p>\n

Organiser Jane Erkens said some of the participants were knitting for a cause, such as Angel Knitters, or were members of the QCWA.<\/p>\n

“But you don’t have to knit to come along. You can do fancy work, crochet or bring your ukelele!” she joked.<\/p>\n

“Each week we are getting someone new popping along.”<\/p>\n

The “Busk Stop” is a small retreat area set back from the footpath with seats, perfect for waiting, busking .. or even, knitting.<\/p>\n

There is a similar spot on the opposite side of Drayton Street.<\/p>\n
