Well-respected South Burnett resident – and former Nanango Race Club president – John Lee, 87,\u00a0died in the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

He had been battling an aggressive form of leukaemia which was diagnosed just two months ago.<\/p>\n

Opposition Leader and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington passed on her sympathies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMy sincerest condolences to the Lee-Madigan families on the passing of John,” she said.<\/p>\n

“He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to the township of Nanango, especially the Nanango Race Club. He will be sadly missed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daughter Margie Lee-Madigan said the family planned to hold a private memorial for John, as per his wishes, with immediate family only.<\/p>\n

“In lieu of flowers or cards, I would ask that donations be sent to the Cancer Council Queensland or the Royal Flying Doctor Service,” Margie said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Flying Doctor did so much to help Dad over the years.”<\/p>\n

John is not only remembered for his work with the Race Club – Lee Park Racecourse bears his name – but he was also a great cattleman, especially well-known in Santa Gertrudis circles.<\/p>\n

He also served on the former Nanango Shire Council for many years.<\/p>\n

John is survived by his daughter Margie Lee-Madigan, son-in-law Scott Madigan, grandchildren Bridget and Jack;\u00a0\u00a0sister Beth, sister in-law Aileen and their families.<\/p>\n

His wife, Pat, died seven years ago.<\/p>\n

John will be buried beside Pat in Nanango Cemetery.<\/p>\n
