A proposal to create a playground in Nanango for children with disabilities took a step forward on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

About a dozen people agreed\u00a0 at a public meeting held at The Shed that the region needed a specialised play area.<\/p>\n

They resolved it should be built at Butter Factory Park, and estimate they would need to raise $75,000 to build it.<\/p>\n

Ironically, the South Burnett Regional Council’s draft Sports and Recreation Plan – which has just finished a round of public consultations – called for the construction of a sensory park at Pioneer Park and had suggested a change of focus for Butter Factory Park.<\/p>\n

However, Butter Factory Park has a disabled toilet – which Pioneer Park lacks – and creating a playground there would spare the Council the expense of building one in the town’s main park if it agrees to the proposal.<\/p>\n

The meeting to discuss the disabled children’s playground was called by Jane Erkens, from Nanango Real Estate, and was attended by members of the Nanango Tourism and Development Association, Crs Roz Frohloff and Gavin Jones, and interested residents.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, Jane told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> the group want to build the park through community fundraising efforts.<\/p>\n

They did not expect the Council to make any financial contribution to the project, but believed Council could help by giving permission for construction of the play area and minimising red tape.<\/p>\n

The group now plans to seek an organisation to auspice its fundraising efforts.<\/p>\n
