prefer to see CBD parking and street upgrades go ahead first<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>May 15, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kingaroy&#8217;s proposed $8 million CBD Revitalisation project will be shaped by just 28 proposals from the public after submissions on the project closed two weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>The South Burnett Regional Council called for feedback after holding public consultation meetings at Kingaroy Town Hall&#8217;s Supper Room on March 22-23 &#8211; one for CBD property owners, another for CBD retailers, and two for the general public.<\/p>\n<p>Residents and businesses were given a little more than five weeks to lodge a written submission if they agreed or disagreed with any parts of the proposal, or believed something important had been overlooked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayor Keith Campbell said on Tuesday the most common suggestions Council received were:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sprucing up the car park at the rear of the banks in Kingaroy Street, and creating a new CBD car park on the former railway land behind Haly Street<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Adding short-term RV parking spaces and a dump point in the CBD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Adding disabled car parking spaces to the CBD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Putting up signs to direct visitors to the RV and disabled parking bays<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Putting electric charging bays in the CBD so electric car drivers could recharge their vehicles while they shopped<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Creating a new pedestrian access between Kingaroy Street and the Glendon Street car park by purchasing and demolishing an existing building<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Relocating the Haly Street pedestrian crossing near Glendon Street to a point mid-way between Kingaroy and Glendon Streets, to improve pedestrian safety<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Finding a new route for heavy vehicles to access Swickers without needing to drive along Haly Street<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A proposed extension of the Town Hall forecourt across Glendon Street to form an &#8220;urban plaza&#8221; that would take in part of the Glendon Street car park did not gain widespread approval.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry submitted it would like to see the CBD&#8217;s main streets upgraded before any work was carried out on the Glendon Street concept.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no appetite for a Glendon Street plaza,&#8221; KCCI president Rob Fitz-Herbert said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would rather see Council invest its funds upgrading other parts of town that badly need revitalisation first, then apply whatever is left to extending the Town Hall&#8217;s forecourt.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related
