South Burnett businesses will have a once-in-two-year opportunity to put their names into the hat for South Burnett Regional Council business next month.<\/p>\n

The SBRC will be calling for tradies, plant and equipment suppliers and general suppliers to submit their details to be included in the council’s Preferred Supplier List.<\/p>\n

SBRC purchasing staff use this list to source quotes from local suppliers on anything from catering to equipment hire, and plumbing services to tree lopping.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year the SBRC reported it is now spending about $16 million a year buying goods and services from local businesses.<\/p>\n

But after changes to the Local Government Act late last year gave councils more flexibility in their purchasing arrangements, the SBRC now has the potential to spend an extra $6 million a year with local businesses.<\/p>\n

This brings the total amount that could be spent locally to $22 million per annum.<\/p>\n

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to be included on Council\u2019s Preferred Supplier List,” Deputy Mayor Keith Campbell said.<\/p>\n

“I urge as many interested South Burnett businesses as possible to get involved.”<\/p>\n

The council will be conducting a series of information sessions over the next three weeks about Council\u2019s Preferred Supplier Arrangements and the process of getting a business on to the Preferred Supplier List.<\/p>\n
