Watch out for the Pedron family at next year’s Anzac Day fixture at Wondai!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scott Pedron, the trainer of Paradiski, followed in the footsteps of his father Athol, when he successfully prepared the lightly-raced chestnut for her April 25 tilt at the BZE Murgon Class B (1100m).<\/p>\n

Back in 2007, Pedron Snr. produced his last winner as a trainer when St Bolero scored at the corresponding Wondai meeting.<\/p>\n

Precisely a year later at the same venue, Athol saddled up the unplaced hope Home For Christmas, the final starter of his career.<\/p>\n

Scott\u2019s wife Kym (nee Treble) of course enjoyed a wonderful occupation of the race day saddle.<\/p>\n

Her final victory, before retiring on October 1, 2011, was aboard Scott\u2019s charge Honour Guard at Warra on July 2 that year.<\/p>\n

Owners Scott, Kym, Athol and his wife Karen – along with the Melbourne couple George Frederiksen and Vesna Koteska – have done well with the five-year-old, ex-Victorian mare.<\/p>\n

The daughter of the French 2000 Guineas hero Astronomer Royal (USA) did not make her debut until early last year.<\/p>\n

She stepped out just three times in the south before entering Pedron\u2019s yard.<\/p>\n

From six Queensland opportunities, Paradiski has won at Esk and Wondai, and collected a second placing at Nanango. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Scott Pedron took a break from the training caper from June 2013 to August 2017.<\/p>\n

During the comeback thus far, Fort Myers, Stratalena and Paradiski have all saluted for him.<\/p>\n

Lady Light, the stable\u2019s only other representative, was taken to the races just once.<\/p>\n

Paradiski is a likely runner at Burrandowan.<\/p>\n

She was reluctant to load at Wondai and was close to being declared a late scratching.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, when riderless, she promptly went into the barrier stall.<\/p>\n

A glance at her pedigree reveals a strong Northern Dancer Influence.<\/p>\n

Her maternal grand-dam, Madam Mamzelle Perdu, was a black-type winner with the Victoria Derby victor Coppelius and the grand warrior Samson among her notable relatives.<\/p>\n

Battle Of The Bush Warms Up<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On Saturday, Bundaberg will be the scene for the first of the south-east Queensland qualifying heats for the $100,000 Battle of the Bush Final at Doomben next month. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The other offering in the district is at Nanango on May 26.<\/p>\n

This week-end\u2019s round over 1212 metres on the sand has drawn nine acceptors with local conditioner Darryl Gardiner and Nanango trainer Glenn Richardson both providing a third of the field.<\/p>\n

The former will rely on Mah Baker, Emperor Maximilian and Al\u2019s Brief while the latter is taking Murranji, Canid and Revelio northwards.<\/p>\n

Richardson has plenty of firepower in the supporting events with Hopetoun Street, Past Dark, First Bid and Destiny\u2019s Mate also listed for action.<\/p>\n

Lindsay Anderson is backing up his Wondai double-act in Liverpool Jane and Clouds, while Kristen Wenck\u2019s candidate is Nug\u2019s Pocket in the Class 2 Plate.<\/p>\n

See The Stars At Burrandowan<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Saturday, May 12 is Mother\u2019s Day Eve and there’s no need to look any further for an ideal gift for that extremely important lady. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Take her to the Burrandowan races and let her watch the stars that come out in the post-races, night sky by camping trackside.<\/p>\n

Breakfast in the sleeping bag would make for a nice change.<\/p>\n

You could also treat Mum to a pre-booked Grazing Box, Cheese Platter or time at the Chahpingah Cafe in the Hall.<\/p>\n

The fashions, the pit-fired BBQs at twilight time and the music, courtesy of Kingaroy High School and then Risa, are unbeatable attractions.<\/p>\n

It pays to remember that there is no mobile phone reception and no ATM facility at the treack.<\/p>\n

But there are plenty of wonderful trees that create a unique ambience.<\/p>\n
