Almost two million Queensland households will receive a $50 credit on their next power bill to fulfil a State Government promise to make electricity more affordable.<\/p>\n

Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the $50 dividend was the first of two annual payments made possible because of public ownership of the state\u2019s power assets.<\/p>\n

“We can return dividends from our power business because its owners are the people of Queensland,” Dr Lynham said.<\/p>\n

“I strongly encourage Queenslanders to check their next power bill for the line item showing the $50 credit.”<\/p>\n

The $50 dividend will be applied automatically by all electricity retailers this year, and again next year.<\/p>\n

“We understand the cost of living pressures faced by all Queenslanders, especially our most vulnerable who will benefit the most,” Dr Lynham said.<\/p>\n

The $50 asset ownership dividend is an element of the government\u2019s Affordable Energy Plan, which also includes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • A two-year cap on electricity price rises to average inflation\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Rebates of up to $300 for energy efficient air conditioners, washing machines and fridges\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Rewards of up to $75 for households and $120 for small businesses in regional Queensland who take up Ergon Energy\u2019s monthly billing options\n<\/ul>\n

        Eligible Queensland pensioners and seniors also receive a $340 annual electricity rebate. <\/p>\n

        Dr Lynham said the government\u2019s Affordable Energy Plan would continue to place downward pressure on power bills.<\/p>\n
