The official opening of Kingaroy’s special 30th Anniversary Expo 88 exhibition will be carried out on May 1 by special guest Sallyanne Atkinson.<\/p>\n

The former Brisbane Lord Mayor will be cutting the ribbon at the Kingaroy Heritage Museum at 10:30am.<\/p>\n

The razzle-dazzle will also include an outside broadcast by ABC Local Radio.<\/p>\n

Although the official opening is on Tuesday, visitors had the opportunity to take a sneak peek at the exhibition on Monday … including one woman, Sarah, who flew up from Victoria especially for the occasion.<\/p>\n

John Moore, from Crows Nest, also drove over to take a look at the collection which has been painstakingly put together by Kingaroy resident Jason Ford.<\/p>\n

John said he spent four days visiting the original Expo – which he thought was amazing – and the Kingaroy display had brought back many memories.<\/p>\n

Jason said that counting all the collector pins, there were more than 1000 items on display.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Special items include wall plaques from the German Beer Hall, four of the actual “theme week” stamps used to stamp passports, Expo street banners and two “Art Buster” statues.<\/p>\n

A special 30-minute video capturing the sights and sounds of Expo, shot by a then 15-year-old teenager on Super 8, is also on loop.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, which is free, will be at museum until the end of October.<\/p>\n

Visitors have the opportunity to win one of six Expo 88 memorabilia packs, each including a genuine Expo book, sticker, postcard, entry ticket and $5 Expo cash.<\/p>\n

One pack will be drawn every month during the exhibition.<\/p>\n
