Opportunities for the community to provide feedback on the South Burnett Regional Council’s proposed multi-million dollar revitalisation plan for the Kingaroy CBD close today (Monday).<\/p>\n

The plan includes the creation of a new car park area in George Street, improved landscaping in Alford, Kingaroy and Markwell Streets and the creation of a “Town Hall Plaza” by closing Glendon Street to all but emergency services traffic.<\/p>\n

A series of community consultation sessions were held in Kingaroy last month where attendees were briefed on the proposals by\u00a0JFP Urban Consultants, the Brisbane-based company which was commissioned last year to to begin planning Kingaroy\u2019s CBD upgrade.<\/p>\n

At the time, Mayor Keith Campbell said a revitalisation of Kingaroy was \u201ccertainly overdue\u201d but Council would not be completing the project in one go.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The plans show various zones which would be developed gradually over several years as funds became available.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not the only capital works program we have to do,\u201d Mayor Campbell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will have to be supported by the State and Federal governments so we will be chasing down everv dollar for it that we can.\u201d<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council currently has a funding application with the Federal Government\u2019s Building Better Regions scheme for $2 million.<\/p>\n

If successful, this $2 million would be matched with $3 million from the Council for the initial phase of the project.<\/p>\n
