Kingaroy’s T.J. O’Neill Oval turned pink last Saturday for the Kingaroy Red Ants’ annual “Playing For A Cause” fundraiser for cancer research.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy teams from U6s through to A Grade wore pink – either socks, guernseys or both.<\/p>\n

There was also pink fairy floss for the kids as well as face-painting and jumping castles.<\/p>\n

Many of the spectators also wore pink and there were pink balloons and streamers galore.<\/p>\n

There was also plenty of footy action on the field for spectators to enjoy, including a full range of junior games, an U18s Toowoomba Rugby League game between the South Burnett Eagles and Highfields, and a very close and exciting seniors clash between the the Kingaroy “Pink” Ants and the Nanango Stags.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy defence rattled Nanango’s attack<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A Grade<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The A Grade game between Kingaroy and Nanango had spectators on the edges if their seats right until the full-time siren.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At half-time, the sides could not have been closer with the scores locked 10-all.<\/p>\n

Goal kickers from both sides were having a tough day because of the windy conditions.<\/p>\n

Nanango scored first in the second half to take the lead 16-10 but a few minutes later lost a player for 10 minutes to the sin bin, apparently for chipping the ref.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy took advantage of the subsequent gaps in the Stags’ defence to put on two quick tries – to Jye Hopkins and Jayden Jarvis – to overtake Nanango 18-16.<\/p>\n

With 12 minutes to go, a try attempt by the Stags was disallowed when the player was ruled to have gone into touch.<\/p>\n

But just two minutes later, Warwick Keating made no mistake, planting the ball near the corner flag to put Nanango back in the lead 20-18.<\/p>\n

With 10 minutes to go, Nanango looked to have the game wrapped up but Kingaroy kept up the pressure.<\/p>\n

Mitchell Crossley finally got the ball over the line to give the game to Kingaroy 22-20.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy tries were scored by Isaiah Gray,\u00a0Rory Mackenzie, Jye Hopkins, Jayden Jarvis and Mitchell Crossley. \u00a0Kirby Rubesaame kicked one goal.<\/p>\n

Nanango tries were scored by Blake Harvey (2), Pat McCallum and Warwick Keating. \u00a0Kieran Harvey kicked two goals.<\/p>\n

In the other A Grade game played at the weekend, the Wondai Wolves took on the Cherbourg Hornets at Murgon Showground.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, for the second weekend in a row, the battered Wolves could not complete the game.<\/p>\n

When the game was called off at half-time, Cherbourg was ahead 48-12.<\/p>\n
