AgForce is calling for farmers to protest in Brisbane – and other Queenslanders to wear green in support – as part of a May Day protest against the State Government’s proposed changes to vegetation management laws.<\/p>\n

AgForce CEO Michael Guerin said farmers were angry and bitterly disappointed with the State Government.<\/p>\n

He said it had continued to ignore their pleas for “fair and balanced” vegetation management laws.<\/p>\n

“The proposed laws could see many farmers walk off the land, shut down new agricultural development and severely damage rather than improve regional landscapes,” Mr Guerin said.<\/p>\n

“We want as many people as possible to join us for a rally outside Parliament House in Brisbane on Tuesday, May 1, gathering from 8:15am and concluding before Parliament starts at 9:30am.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“For those who can’t make it to Brisbane, we’re asking you to join in a virtual rally at the same time as the protest outside Parliament House.<\/p>\n

“Dress in a green shirt to symbolise that farmers are the true environmentalists, take photos and videos and post them on social media using the hashtags #FairLaws4Farmers and #YourFoodOurFuture.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“This could be the last chance we have to send a strong, united message to the State’s politicians before the Palaszczuk Government rams these laws through State Parliament.<\/p>\n

“Enough is enough. Vegetation management has been a divisive issue for two decades. Let’s all work together on a long-lasting solution that is good for the environment and good for agricultural production.”<\/p>\n

Mr Guerin said a new website had been launched – www.atruestory.com.au<\/a><\/strong> – with a video of Queensland farmers explaining why the new laws are wrong.<\/p>\n

“AgForce is proud to support this initiative from grass roots producers and encourage all Queenslanders to watch the video to gain a better understanding of why farming families are so upset and frustrated by proposed changes to vegetation management laws,” he said.<\/p>\n
