The South Burnett Regional Council welcomed 10 trainees on board this week, thanks to funding from the Queensland Government.<\/p>\n

Mayor Keith Campbell congratulated the trainees on their successful appointment on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The Council applied for funding to employ the trainees under the Queensland Government’s First Start Program.<\/p>\n

The trainees are the third batch the Council has taken on since the program began in 2015, when it employed eight trainees after receiving more than 280 applications for the positions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The following year it expanded the number of available positions to 10, and has kept to that number for this year’s intake.<\/p>\n

The program focuses on providing direct assistance to Queenslanders who need support to enter and stay in the workforce.<\/p>\n

The Council partnered with South Burnett CTC, the Local Government Association of Queensland and the State Government to fund, recruit and select people for the 12 month traineeships.<\/p>\n

Mayor Campbell commended the efforts of everyone involved in the hiring program. <\/strong><\/p>\n

“I was particularly impressed with South Burnett\u2019s CTC\u2019s selection process,” Mayor Campbell said.<\/p>\n

“They screened 166 applications and carried out the initial interviews, then presented Council with a much smaller pool of applicants for final interviews and selection.”<\/p>\n

The trainees will complete a Certificate qualification in their relevant field during the coming year.<\/p>\n

Their training will be monitored and supervised by TAFE Queensland, Skills Tech, Ballistic Training Solutions and Apprenticeship Support Australia to ensure they meet all requirements of their traineeships.<\/p>\n

The trainees have been spread across the region in the the Council’s library, administration, civil construction, warehousing, horticulture, workplace health and safety and water and wastewater sections.<\/p>\n
