A large contingent of veterans headed the Kingaroy Anzac Day march<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

April 26, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kingaroy’s Anzac Day crowd was a big as ever on Wednesday, despite initial fears some local residents may have been tempted to head up the highway to Wooroolin.<\/p>\n

A piper led the parade which stretched the length of two blocks in Haly Street.<\/p>\n

Former Defence Force personnel were joined by a contingent of cadets from 135 ACU at Wondai and children from Kingaroy State School, Kingaroy State High School, Coolabunia and Taabinga State schools, St Mary’s Catholic College and St John’s Lutheran School.<\/p>\n

There were also scouts, guides, groups from a number of local sporting clubs, and Emergency Services personnel and vehicles.<\/p>\n

The parade entered Memorial Park via a slightly different route this year in a bid to eliminate congestion around the Rotunda.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker was Warrant Officer Dale Young, from the Royal Australian Navy, who shared a very moving speech about Australia’s military campaigns since World War I (audio link below).<\/strong><\/p>\n

School students played major roles in the commemoration ceremony, reading the Loyal Resolutions, the Roll of Honour and leading the laying of wreaths.<\/p>\n

“I am pleased so many people are here to commemorate a day that is so important to veterans and their families,” Kingaroy-Memerambi Sub-Branch president Don Davey told the crowd.<\/p>\n

“We are here to pay our respects to those who have fallen, those who have returned and since passed away, and those from modern conflicts who have to live with the scars and memories of what they have endured.”<\/p>\n
