Visiting caravanners will be prevented from accidentally driving over the South Burnett Rail Trail thanks to two upgrades installed this week.<\/p>\n

On Monday the South Burnett Regional Council installed a row of bollards interspersed with trees along the edge of Wondai’s free overnight camping area.<\/p>\n

Workers also installed a second set of bollards and trees in Wooroolin’s free camping area.<\/p>\n

The decision to install the bollards was prompted by an incident late last year when a caravanner using Wondai’s free camping area mistakenly thought it stretched across both sides of the Rail Trail.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The visitor drove his rig over the trail before realising the error and doubling back, causing damage to a small section of the trail in the process.<\/p>\n

Cr Ros Heit said the incident had been brought to the attention of the Council’s South Burnett Rail Trail Management Advisory Committee, who recommended bollards as a permanent solution to the problem.<\/p>\n

“Both the Wondai and Wooroolin free camping areas are now used by lots of visitors each year, and the South Burnett Rail Trail is also getting well used, too,” Cr Heit said.<\/p>\n

“Bollards that define the edges of both camping areas will help ensure caravanners and rail trail users can co-exist safely, and help protect the trail from damage as well.”<\/p>\n
