Gympie Police are warning residents to be very wary if they receive a telephone call from an alleged NBN provider talking about customer dissatisfaction with the service.<\/p>\n

Scammers are believed to be targeting areas where the NBN is fairly new, making it seem a more legitimate phone call.<\/p>\n

The caller states that they are trying to work on the problems and as some kind of compensation for the bad service would like to offer you six months of NBN internet for free.<\/p>\n

But to provide the free internet they state they require your bank account details to transfer the money into to cover the six months payments.<\/p>\n

Once the BSB and account number\/name is provided the caller confirms the details back to you, upon you saying \u201cyes, that is the correct number\u201d the scammer withdraws every cent out of the account.<\/p>\n

“In this incident reported, the victim lost $4000 from their account, very fortunate that they did not provide their other account which had a lot more in it!”\u00a0Senior Constable Deb Wruck<\/span> said.<\/span><\/p>\n
