The State Government has announced funding for four new positions at the Bunya Murri Rangers.<\/p>\n

The Rangers are one of seven organisations in Queensland that will benefit from an $8.1 million funding boost for the Indigenous Land and Sea Rangers program.<\/p>\n

Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch said the\u00a0four new positions would help with landscape management and undertake various projects at Cattle Creek, Russell Park, the Bunya Mountains, Ban Ban Springs and in the North Burnett.<\/p>\n

They will also\u00a0improve the existing yarning circle adjacent to The Ration Shed at Cherbourg.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rangers\u2019 focus will be on strengthening songlines across the Bunya landscape,” Ms Enoch said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of these projects include undertaking fencing and track upgrades at Cattle Creek, protecting grassland balds through weed and fire management throughout Russell Park and the National Park, undertaking fire management for unused stock routes and monitoring native grass establishment.”<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bunya Peoples\u2019 Aboriginal Corporation runs the Bunya Mountains Murri Rangers program in partnership with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Downs Regional Council, the Department of Natural Resources and Mines and the Burnett Mary Regional Group.<\/p>\n
