My daughter Elke and I had a great afternoon at the Nanango Races on Easter Saturday, which saw bumper attendances at the Lee Park race track<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\"\"<\/a>April 17, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was an excellent turn out for the Nanango Races over the Easter long weekend, which also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the resumption of racing at Lee Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although racing in Nanango can be traced back to 1856, horses only began racing in the area occupied by the present-day Lee Park Raceway in 1880.<\/p>\n

They continued to run there until 1936, when they were put into what was meant to be a temporary halt because of the looming threat of World War II.<\/p>\n

That halt turned out to be a 32 year wait until a committee was formed to restart the Lee Park races in 1967, with the first revived race meeting occurring in Easter 1968.<\/p>\n

Many of the original committee and officials who were present on that Easter Saturday 50 years ago came back this Easter to recognise the Nanango Race Club’s achievement. <\/p>\n

There was also a lot of memorabilia on display inside the old Nanango Railway Station, which was the race club’s home back in 1968. <\/p>\n

Well done to the Nanango Race Club, NRC President Andrew Green and local historians for putting in a lot of time and effort to bring it all together.<\/p>\n

It was great to celebrate the Baton Relay with Benarkin State School’s students, who travelled to Kilcoy to support fellow student Sage Volschenk<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Benarkin SS Attends Queen’s Baton Relay<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Benarkin State School really got into the spirit of the Commonwealth Games’ Queen’s Baton Relay when it passed through our region in late March.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When the school found out that Year 5 student Sage Volschenk was going to carry the Queens Baton through Kilcoy, all 32 Benarkin SS students travelled to Kilcoy to cheer her on.<\/p>\n

I was lucky enough to catch up with them on the day and couldn\u2019t be prouder!<\/p>\n

I caught up with announcer Alan Henderson and Gympie Mayor Mick Curran at this year’s Great Horse Ride in Kilkivan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

What A Great Horse Ride!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

200 horses took part in this year’s Kilkivan Great Horse Ride and it was a wonderful spectacle to see them parade up the town’s main street.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year the Great Horse Ride expanded from two and a half days to a full five days.<\/p>\n

Well done to Rosie Fitzgerald and her team for all their hard work – especially with the problems the committee faced with a telecommunications issue this year.<\/p>\n

I held my mobile office at QEII Park in the heart of Murgon because it’s a great way to meet Murgon district residents like Cec Wilkinson, from Cloyna<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Thank you again to everyone who made the time to attend my Mobile Office in Murgon a few weeks ago. <\/strong><\/p>\n

My first mobile office in February was booked out, so I really wanted to head back and provide the community with the opportunity to talk to me about local matters. <\/p>\n

It was great to catch up with so many locals and discuss key issues for the township. <\/p>\n

Our school leaders are now well and truly settled into their roles for 2018. <\/strong><\/p>\n

At the end of Term 1, I caught up with the Kumbia State School Leaders to present them with their badges and talk about leadership. <\/p>\n

Thank you to School Captains Sidney and Rhianann for welcoming me with a smile at the school gate.<\/p>\n

The Cherbourg Men\u2019s Shed team are keen to improve their premises for their growing number of members<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

First Indigenous Mens Shed in Queensland<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Recently my husband Jason and I visited the Cherbourg Men\u2019s Shed, the first Indigenous men’s shed in Queensland. <\/strong><\/p>\n

It was great to meet coordinators, Wayne Farrell and Norm Hegarty, along with some of the members. <\/p>\n

The Cherbourg Men’s Shed is just getting started, but already have 45 members and are keen to improve their shed and equipment.<\/p>\n

The Labor Government has a majority in the Parliament and they intend to change the balanced vegetation management laws that have served this state for years. <\/p>\n

The LNP will fight this attack on farmers but we need your help – please sign the petition.<\/p>\n
