The winners of the inaugural David Bryce Rural Art Awards will be announced on Friday night (April 13) at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery.<\/p>\n

David Bryce was one of Kingaroy\u2019s best-known and best-loved artists.<\/p>\n

The awards were born out of a retrospective of his work in 2016 in celebration of what would have been David Bryce’s 100th birthday.<\/p>\n

The Rural Art Awards celebrate the important role creative activities play in the lives of people who live in rural, regional and remote areas.<\/p>\n

More than 80 pieces of artwork have been entered from all over south-east Queensland.<\/p>\n

Seven prizes will be awarded, including the David Bryce Award which is the most prestigious and will carry a $2200 prize.<\/p>\n

Awards judge Peter Breen co-founded the Brisbane-based, artist-run organisation Jugglers Art Space in 1998 and became its chair in 2011.<\/p>\n

He is a practicing artist and has a personal connection to David Bryce.<\/p>\n

He was the charge radiographer at Kingaroy Hospital from 1978 to 1982 and knew David because both attended the same Baptist church.<\/p>\n

As an art lover, Peter also often visited David\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

The David Bryce Rural Art Awards will be officially opened at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery on Friday, April 13 at 6:30pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The award winners will be announced by Awards co-ordinator and compere Patrick Burns at 7:00pm.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will remain on display until May 27, and visitors during the six-week showing will have an opportunity to cast a vote for their favourite piece.<\/p>\n

The winner will receive a $500 People\u2019s Choice Award, which will be announced on May 25.<\/p>\n

The Gallery is open from 10:00am to 4:00pm Mondays to Fridays, and 10:00am to 2:00pm on weekends and public holidays.<\/p>\n
