The LNP has slammed the State Government’s proposal to introduce a new waste levy, saying it will hurt businesses and everyday Queenslanders.<\/p>\n

“Annastacia Palaszczuk\u2019s dishonesty campaign with Queensland has continued with the introduction of a new waste tax,” LNP leader Deb Frecklington said on Tuesday afternoon. <\/p>\n

“Everyone will pay for Labor\u2019s wheelie bin tax,” she said. <\/p>\n

“Every householder could be slugged more for garbage collection. And builders will be slugged more to get rid of waste and that cost will be passed on to new homeowners, costing Queenslanders an extra $2000 to build a new home. <\/p>\n

“This levy will be a tax on every Queenslander, and will impact every industry from construction and manufacturing to tourism and hospitality. <\/p>\n

“The extra costs from the waste tax will be paid by every Queenslander. <\/p>\n

“This job-destroying waste tax is in addition to the four taxes Labor announced just two days before the last election.” <\/strong> <\/p>\n

The four new taxes were a tax on Queenslanders buying cars that cost more than $100,000 that would raise $75m over three years, and a new land tax category for the state\u2019s 850 largest property holders (not including farms or family homes) that will raise $227m over the same period.<\/p>\n

Foreign buyers of property will have their transfer duty increased from 3 per cent to 7 per cent to raise an extra $99m over three years, and interstate online bookmakers would have to pay a 15 per cent charge on their net wagering revenue, raising $90m over three years.<\/p>\n

LNP Shadow Environment Minister David Crisafulli said when things got tough, Labor\u2019s only answer was new taxes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“This has nothing to do with changing behaviour, but everything to do with reaching into people\u2019s pockets and charging them more,” Mr Crisafulli said. <\/p>\n

“How does slugging somebody in regional Queensland deal with the problem of waste dumping at a handful of dumps in the southeast?<\/p>\n

“This isn\u2019t a waste solution, it\u2019s another tax grab.” <\/p>\n
