“Purrrfect Pink” was the theme for Saturday’s Nanango Races but it could well have been “hot pink” as the mercury climbed officially to just over 37 degrees.<\/p>\n

The temperature may have kept some patrons away from the Lee Park track, but there was still an eager crowd of punters for the four-race meeting, and the Moffatdale Ridge Fashions of the Field competition was as hotly contested as ever.<\/p>\n

If the colour of the day was pink, the lucky number was definitely “4”, with the number four saddlecloth on board three winners and a third placegetter.<\/p>\n

Nanango trainer Scott Pedron had a good day, with six-year-old bay gelding Blackgold winning by a head in Race 3. The Pedron-owned and trained Forshot also took out third spot in the last race.<\/p>\n

Racegoers battling the heat welcomed the new shaded area in front of the bar which was unveiled for the first time on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Nanango Race Club president John Lee said the structure and concrete slab cost about $20,000. It was erected with assistance from Stanwell and fund-raising by the club.<\/p>\n
