A suggestion by the Queensland Teachers’ Union that teachers place Eureka Flag stickers on their private property in schools has raised the ire of Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said union propaganda should be banned from all Queensland schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cParty politics has no place in Queensland schools and union propaganda definitely doesn\u2019t,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

The QTU has offered the stickers to members to show their solidarity with the CFMEU, which has been banned from flying the Eureka Flag on construction sites or putting Eureka stickers on equipment such as hard hats.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the Australian Building and Construction Commission issued new Building Code rules that specifically banned the Eureka Flag from being displayed on building sites. <\/p>\n

If a construction company breaches the code, they could become ineligible to compete for Federal Government work.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents go to school to learn important life skills. Our schools must not be an environment for Labor Party indoctrination,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAnnastacia Palaszczuk needs show some leadership and ban union propaganda from school grounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome union behaviour is appalling, disgusting, and has no place near children. <\/p>\n

“Last year CFMEU protesters at the Oaky North mine allegedly threatened to rape children and physically punish people who did not support their cause.” <\/p>\n

(The Oaky North protest in Central Queensland involved a lockout of workers by mining company Glencore for more than 200 days after enterprise bargaining broke down. There have been allegations of intimidation by picketers, and claims Glencore “spied” on the homes of union members; the dispute is ongoing.) <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Premier refused to personally condemn the behaviour at Oaky North mine. Today she needs to step up and protect children in Queensland schools from the unions,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

Opposition Education spokesman Jarrod Bleijie said the unions\u2019 control over the Palaszczuk Government was alarming. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a government run by the unions for the unions,\u201d Mr Bleijie said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur kids should be learning how to read and write, not how to be militant unionists.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact unions think they can blatantly bring campaign material into Queensland schools shows how much control they have over Annastacia Palaszczuk\u2019s government.<\/p>\n
