March 7, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

The South Burnett Regional Council will be hosting a community celebration in Kingaroy on March 27 to welcome the Queen’s Baton Relay runners.<\/p>\n

The runners will all be South Burnett locals who applied to the Council to be baton bearers last year.<\/p>\n

The Relay began on March 13, 2017 (Commonwealth Day) at Buckingham Palace in London.<\/p>\n

The baton, which carries a message from the Queen to be read out at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, then travelled through every Commonwealth nation and territory on its way to Australia.<\/p>\n

It began its Australian journey last Christmas and will travel for 100 days over a 40,000km route designed to connect with as many Australians as possible in every State and Territory.<\/p>\n

Locally, it will travel from Noosa Heads to Caloundra, then Kilcoy, Kingaroy, Dalby and Oakey before working its way back to Brisbane via Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

The community celebrations will begin at 4:00pm and will offer free amusement rides, free face painting for children, demonstrations, food stalls and a lucky door prize.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Baton Relay runners are expected to arrive at Memorial Park in Haly Street at 5:30pm that day.<\/p>\n

After the Baton Relay arrives, there’ll be a small break for official proceedings.<\/p>\n

Then activities will resume until the event concludes with a fireworks display at 8:00pm.<\/p>\n

The community celebrations are free, and all residents are welcome.<\/p>\n
