January 11, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

Seven fire crews are at the scene of a grass fire burning out of control in remote country near Cobbs Hill Road and Nangur Road at Cloyna.<\/p>\n

An Emergency Services spokesman said the fire was sparked by a lightning strike yesterday.<\/p>\n

Firefighters are working to establish containment lines.<\/p>\n

The fire is not under control at this time however there is no threat to property.<\/p>\n

An aircraft is on scene assisting crews with reconnaissance.<\/p>\n

An incident control centre has been established at the Murgon Fire Station and local residents with questions can speak with a member of the incident management team at the station.<\/p>\n

Residents experiencing smoke in their area have been advised to keep doors and windows closed and medications close by if they suffer from a respiratory condition.<\/p>\n

Motorists have been urged to drive with caution.<\/p>\n

Nine fire crews and an aircraft are working to contain a grass fire near Manumbar Road at Elgin Vale.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The blaze was also sparked by a lightning strike during yesterday’s storm.<\/p>\n

An Emergency Services spokesman said a\u00a0dozer is assisting to finish off containment lines.<\/p>\n

It is expected the fire will be completely contained by midday.<\/p>\n

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service is concerned other fires in the region may have been sparked by yesterday afternoon’s storms.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The severe thunderstorm that struck Kingaroy, Blackbutt and Nanango yesterday afternoon has sparked several vegetation fires,” a spokesman said.<\/p>\n

“We have aerial reconnaissance being carried out, however fire crews need the community’s help to locate fires as they occur. If you spot a fire, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
