Wondai Wolves’ senior coach Michael Greenwood is worried that the historic rugby league club may not have enough players to field a team this season.<\/p>\n

No senior players turned up at the club’s recent sign-on day, and even numbers in the junior grades were down.<\/p>\n

“I’m concerned that we won’t have a (senior) team at all,” Michael told southburnett.com.au<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Wolves were grand finalists four years ago but are now struggling just to get players.<\/p>\n

Part of the problem, Michael believes, is the demographics of Wondai town itself.<\/p>\n

“It is such an old population here, and it’s only getting older,” he said.<\/p>\n

Michael said the Wolves also no longer seemed to attract many players from Proston or Hivesville.<\/p>\n

“We are a very proud club,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We have had a number of players who have represented Wide Bay and are in the South Burnett Team of the Century.<\/p>\n

“People in the past were very passionate about their football and about their town.”<\/p>\n

Michael is hoping some of that old passion is still out there.<\/p>\n

“Any players in the local region who are keen to have a run should just turn up to training at 6:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights,” he said.<\/p>\n

Training is held at the Wondai Sportsgrounds.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, interested players can contact Michael on 0449-577-033.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“If we don’t get enough players this year, sadly we may have to pull the plug,” he said.<\/p>\n

Michael said the junior teams, from U6s right through to U16s, were also still looking for players.<\/p>\n
