The South Burnett Rewards local shopping campaign will wind up soon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

An innovative ‘shop local’ promotion run by the South Burnett Regional Council for the past 21 months will come to an end soon.<\/p>\n

Rewardle – a system that required shoppers to scan a card or an app to build up points from their purchases and claim rewards – was launched in May 2016 at a series of business breakfasts held in Wondai, Murgon, Blackbutt, Nanango and Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Retailers were encouraged to pay $49 a month to join up to the program, which was backed by an extensive local print and radio advertising campaign.<\/p>\n

The program was co-sponsored by Heritage Bank Nanango, Swickers Bacon Factory, the Burnett Business Centre, Ken Mills Toyota, JobMatch Employment and Bishopp Outdoor Advertising.<\/p>\n

A year later, the Council held an awards night to report the results of the campaign.<\/p>\n

At that time, the Council said a total of 53 businesses had taken part in the Rewardle promotion, along with 4204 shoppers who had acumulated 587,956 reward points.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since then, the Council has been attempting to keep the campaign going by giving participating businesses a 25 per cent subsidy of Rewardle’s monthly cost.<\/p>\n

However – with just eight participants remaining – the program is now set to wind up.<\/p>\n

The Council will continue to pay Melbourne-based Rewardle $270 per month to have the application running at the South Burnett’s five visitor information centres in an effort to encourage tourists to visit all of them, but will withdraw its support for any local businesses who wish to remain with the program.<\/p>\n
